Job Opening: Caltrans Transportation Planner, Fresno County

Please provide this information to prospective candidates who might be interested in becoming a Transportation Planner for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The minimum qualifications for a Transportation Planner are:

 Either I

A Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, City Planning, or Regional Planning. (Registration as a senior will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation before they are eligible for appointment.)

Or II

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as: Urban or Regional Studies, Public Policy, Public Administration, Environmental Policy or Studies, Geography, Sociology, Economics, or Civil Engineering. And Twelve semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in any of the following subject areas:

transportation planning, city, community, regional, rural or urban planning/studies, land use planning and development, or travel analysis and forecasting. (Registration as a senior will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation before they can be considered eligible for appointment.)

 Or III

Experience: One year of experience as a participant in Federal, State, regional, or local transportation planning activities. And Education:

Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience being equal to one year of education.)

Or IV

One year of experience performing duties comparable to a Management Services Technician, Range B, in a transportation planning activity, and 12 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of college courses in any of the areas listed in Pattern II above, and including the completion of a college course or in-service training course in effective writing or the equivalent.

Please note that all applicants must meet the education and/or experience requirements to take the on-line Transportation Planner Examination. The names of successful competitors will be merged onto the eligible list in order of final scores regardless of test date. Eligibility expires 12 months after it is established. 2011 Fall CEQA Basics Workshop

The Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP) proudly announces its 2011 Fall CEQA Basics Workshop. This full day workshop will provide a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the California Environmental Quality Act and the State Guidelines. The program features a curriculum developed specifically for people involved in the environmental review process, including consultants, regulators, applicants or industry professionals, and will benefit those new to the field as well as practicing professionals (AICP-CM credits pending).

Valley Voice in Sacramento: Feb 2011

SacramentoThe Regional Policy Council and Executive Directors from the eight county Regional Transportation Planning Agencies are headed to Sacramento for two days of legislative advocacy on February 2-3, 2011.  This two-day event will include visits with many of California’s top elected officials and Department Directors to collectively inform Sacramento decision makers about the needs of our region including more funding for transportation improvements for Highway 99, smart growth implementation, goods movement, short haul rail, air quality and green house gas reduction policies.  Special thanks to the Valley Legislative Action Committee (VLAC) for organizing the Valley Voice events.  The Valley Voice trip to Washington D.C. is scheduled for September of 2011.   For more info, email info(at)sigalainc(dot)com
